The “Community ArtSpace” is open! This new collaborative, community venture is open 7 days a week with a great start of diversified programming which includes low cost adult workshops, free children’s workshops, a youth arts club, CAT workshops & gallery and a community bulletin board.  Further plans include senior programming, a community gallery, historical lectures, interior design demonstrations, book signings, artist demonstrations and shows....etc. Endless possibilities!
Any organization, business or individual is welcome to collaborate with us in this public space and “Get Involved” either in established programs or create a new community project, program, enrichment or promotion.

The “Community ArtSpace” is administered by the Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild with development funding in part by a grant from the Small Business Development Fund administered by the MARK Project and program funding from the O’Connor Foundation, Arc of Delaware County, Kids in the Kaatskills and the Catskill Mountain Artisans Guild. The CATSKILL MOUNTAIN ARTISANS GUILD is happy to announce their collaboration with Quail Hollow Events for the WOODSTOCK-NEW PALTZ ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR 2013. This FAIR has become a major east coast venue for high quality juried art and craft work. We are proud to be part of such a prestigious and well respected art organization.

On Memorial Day Weekend 2013, the GUILD will bring demonstrations to the FAIR including wood turning, weaving, fused glass making, spinning, woodworking and more for the public to view. There will also be separate workshops for children of all ages involving weaving, paper marbling, nature crafts, stone painting, toy making and more.

WEAVING - Tabitha Gilmore Barnes
Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes, weaver and spinner, has been creating textile products since 1980. She dyes and hand spins Delaware County Shetland wools and Alpaca fibers to “Bring Home the Colors of the Catskill” in each crafted item.

 

12PM - 2PM

RECYCLED WEARABLES - Eva Fox
Eva Fox has been sewing since she was a teenager making all her own clothing. She loves creating and salvaging unwanted items in her one of a kind wearable arts. As a master at the server sewing machine, she will give inside tips on how it all goes together.

 

2PM - 4PM

WOOD TURNING - George Olsen
George and Theresa Olsen create lathe-turned wood objects, specializing in functional art for professional and amateur’s chefs. George will demonstrate the art and craft of wood turning using a micro and mini lathe.

DYEING TECHNIQUES - Nat Thomas
After graduating with a printmaking major, Thomas has explored a wide variety of artistic media Throughout his long career. Turning from painting to textiles in the mid-1980’s, he has produced textile creations ranging from art and bed quilts to scarves and T-shirts. He will explain the basics of dying natural fabrics, demonstrating some techniques he uses to create his distinctive hand-dyed fabrics.

FRAME ART - JoAnn Chmielowski
JoAnn will discuss and demonstrate her process for framing art from scratch. She will have tips and suggestions for creating your own special piece as well as speaking about the appropriate paint and process while answering any questions you may have.

 

2PM - 4PM

FUSED GLASS - Barbara English
Barbara English will demonstrate how glass work is created from start to finish. She will show us how to work with fused glass to make earrings, pendant and small plates including examples of each.

METAL WORKING - Cathie Shultis
Cathie is a self-taught artist, learning through books and/or videos online. After 25 years of beadwork, painting and encaustics, she found metal, etching, bending and molding while creating her unique one of a kind pieces.

WORK WORKING - John Knapp
John Knapp is a self-taught woodworker, specializing in heirloom quality toys. Solidly built from native hardwood trees that he harvests right on his 268 acre homestead in Oxford NY, Knapp's toys will last into the next generation.

 

2PM - 4PM

SPINNING - Karen Lloyd
Karen Lloyd is a long time knitter and spinner. She has done custom knitting for fashion designers, film, TV and theatre working as wardrobe supervisor for many Broadway shows. Spinning allows you to take wool or other fiber and turning it into yarn by drawing out and twisting. In doing so, you can create your own yarn creations combining your favorite weights, textures and colors.

Kids will create some very magical things from nature’s bounty.

WEAVING - Tabitha Gilmore Barnes
“FROM FLEECE TO FABRIC” Watch how fabric is created on a loom. Learn the fundamental process of "one up/one down" weaving using cardboard looms to create your handmade sampler.

 

2PM - 4PM

STONE PAINTING - SIGNS OF SPRING -Becky Nielsen
Children of all ages are welcome to select a stone and create a personal spring talisman, using acrylic paint. A few simple examples will be available, but the focus is to allow the child to use his/her own creativity with this medium.

FELTING - Jill Cline
Children will get chance to roll up their sleeves, get their hands wet and experience the magical process of felting.

COLLAGE - Nat Thomas
Kids can let their imaginations go wild collaging recycled papers into works of art.

PAPER MARBLING - Val Wells
Suminagashi, or Japanese paper marbling, is a way of floating inks, swirling them, and putting your designs on paper.  Fun for any age, by this mesmerizing process you will have decorative paper that you can frame or use for note cards, collage, or as a background for painting.

TOY MAKING - John Knapp
Learn the construction of the traditional “BUZZ SAW” toy and have the opportunity to customize your own disc, assemble, and then try them out.

 

12PM - 2PM

RAINBOW CROWNS - Lisa Scalf
Children will learn “paper gum wrapper weaving” and make great crowns to wear.

 

2PM - 4PM

PAPER MACHE -Cathie Shultis
Have fun making your own cups and bowls each with its own personality. You will be able to sculpt a face or any design you wish using plaster wrap. After they dry, take them home to paint them any way you want!
